Statement by the Municipal Manager on the Water Supply Crisis in Tulbagh

12 November 2025

Witzenberg Municipality wishes to address the ongoing water supply challenges currently affecting parts of Tulbagh.

On 11 November 2025, a notice was issued informing residents that essential maintenance would be carried out on the main water supply line in Tulbagh. During this process, our technical teams discovered unforeseen complications that have significantly delayed the restoration of full water services.

Our dedicated municipal technical teams, together with our appointed contractor, Khana Properties, have been working tirelessly through the night and into today to resolve these issues. Despite these efforts, we were unable to meet the initial restoration timeline of 16:00 as previously communicated. We acknowledge that our communication during this period has been intermittent and that we did not adequately prepare the community for the extended disruption. This is a matter we take seriously and have addressed internally to ensure improved communication and service delivery going forward.

Currently, certain sections of Tulbagh have water, while the lower-lying areas below the reservoir remain without supply. Our teams have resorted to manual excavation to locate and repair the fault, as the ageing infrastructure presents unique challenges. In some cases, these pipelines are situated on private property, which limits access. We appeal to residents for their cooperation should our teams require entry to complete the necessary work.

We understand the inconvenience this has caused and sincerely apologise to the residents of Tulbagh for the disruption. Please be assured that restoring water supply remains our highest priority, and every available resource is being deployed to resolve the matter as quickly as possible.

Witzenberg Municipality remains committed to providing reliable services and strengthening trust with our communities. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. Further updates will be communicated as soon as new information becomes available.
