Agriculture

A large portion of the total provincial deciduous fruit is produced in Witzenberg, which positions the municipality as an important niche stakeholder in the provincial agricultural economy. Agriculture is, by far, the dominant source of employment within the area. A large number of fruit exports to the European Union, Asia, India and the USA indicate the superior quality of Witzenberg’s produce and respect the world has for the municipality’s exports.

Manufacturing

The manufacturing sector includes the processing of agricultural products such as the packaging and canning of fruit. Major international export companies reside in Ceres, which is also the agri-processing centre in Witzenberg. The most important manufacturing subdivision is the food and beverage sector.

Wholesale & Retail Trade

Witzenberg is the smallest municipal contributor to Cape Winelands District’s GDPR, but important areas of economic activity in Witzenberg are Tulbagh, Ceres and Wolseley. There are huge opportunities to invest in wholesale andretail businesses in the region, due to property development potential and migration from other provinces.

Finance & Business Services

A wide variety of well-known agricultural business and financial support services are available in the region. The dominant banking role players in business banking are Absa, Nedbank and Standard Bank, with the dominant retail bank being Capitec.
