Water Quality

Water Quality – 09 February 2018

Witzenberg Municipality take note of comments made regarding our drinking water quality on social media. The municipality view unsubstantiated allegations of poor water quality from our official water supply in a very serious light and is in the process of pursuing legal action. Further to this, our drinking water is tested on operational requirements on a daily, weekly and monthly basis for SANS: 2015 compliance by an external accredited laboratory (AL Abbott & Associates) as is required by legislation. Residents drawing water at the natural spring located at the R43 turn off (entrance to Michell’s Pass) do so at their own risk.  This water has not been tested by the municipality or subjected to our quality checks as it is NOT an officially regulated water source.  Although we understand the current water crisis in the Western Cape, this water is not fit for human consumption.  Also, stopping on the shoulder of the R43 is an infringement of the National Road Traffic Act.  We appreciate your cooperation in this regard.  Should you have any queries, please contact Witzenberg Municipality Water and Sewerage on (023) 316 1854 for assistance.
