Senior Electrician

Requirements:

  • N2 Certificate and a completed Trade Test as Electrician.
  • Valid Code C1 Driver’s license with PRDP
  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience in MV electricity distribution.
  • Good supervision, human relations, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Sound mathematical and technical skills.
  • Ability to give attention to detail and a High level of responsibility
  • Ability to work under pressure and to handle conflict.
  • Required  to  work  overtime  and/or outside  normal  working  hours  during  emergencies and planned overtime.
  • Required to perform stand-by duties.
  • Must perform duties in the whole municipal area.
  • Fluent in at least 2 of the 3 languages spoken in the Western Cape, Afrikaans, English or IsiXhosa.

 

Duties:

  • Connect and disconnect high voltage copper and aluminium cables and wires.
  • Conduct sequences associated with the converting of mini substations and transformers upgrade.
  • Responsible to maintain and repair the medium and low voltage electrical networks.
  • Ensure that all work is carried out in terms of safety protocol and procedures and work is in accordance with best engineering practice and standards.
  • Control and address deviations from present targets and deadlines on planned schedules and institute corrective measures.
  • Investigate overloading of medium and low tension power lines and cables and report findings to the superintendent
  • Responsible also to perform work when elevated in the cherry picker.
  • Provide guidelines and specific instructions to subordinate personnel with respect to storages of materials, equipment and hitching cable trailers.
  • Manufacture and repair equipment in the municipal electrical reticulation system.
  • Provide advice to subordinate staff regarding general fitting and welding work.
  • Supervise and control the section's staff by monitoring attendance, conduct in the work place and output against present targets.
  • Address deviations from agreed performance indicators and address non-performance by instituting corrective measures.
  • Complete and hand in vehicle log sheets and refer any defects to be repaired.
  • Responsible to complete all daily administration duties as required.
  • Ensure that all health and safety requirements are met during all work related sequences.
  • Responsible to use protective clothing and apply safety procedures prior and during operations.
